Gabriele Mastrototaro was born in Bari, Italy, on March 1st 2003. He's currently attending a Master at the Stuttgart Hochschule für Musik in the Davide Formisano's flute class and the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie (IEMA) in Frankfurt am Main.

Despite his young age, Gabriele has already premiered over twenty new works as a soloist, chamber groups and with ensembles. Fascinated by new music, he has collaborated with groups such as Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Studio MusikFabrik (Cologne), Reactive Ensemble and Ton-Art Ensemble (Stuttgart), Parco della Musica Ensemble (Rome), and Six Memos Ensemble (Bari), having the possibility to work with composers like Francesco Filidei, Marco Stroppa, Liza Lim, Alessandro Solbiati and Luca Francesconi and taking part in Music Festivals such as Impuls Festival (Graz), Nuova Consonanza (Rome), Into the Open (Berlin), Lucerne Festival, Gaudeamus Festival (Utrecht), Wittener Tage für Neue Musik, International Symposium Bangkok, Urticanti Festival (Bari).

Gabriele has performed as guest flutist with several orchestras in Germany and Italy, including the SWR Symphonieorchester, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Oper Frankfurt, LaFil – Philharmonic Orchestra of Milan and the Peace Orchestra Project, taking part in a European tour with the soloist Martha Argerich. Beginning in October 2025, he will join the Academy of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (HR-Sinfonieorchester) for two years.

As a soloist, Gabriele has performed concertos by J.S. Bach, P. Taffanel, and F. Busoni with orchestras such as Cappella Tübingen, the Orchestra Filarmonica Pugliese, and the Umberto Giordano Symphony Orchestra.

Gabriele was the first prize winner at the Angelo Persichilli Flute Competition in Rome in December 2021, and was awarded second prize at the Liverpool International Flute Competition in February 2023.
